KMST ver. 1.2.177 – New Epic Dungeon & Massive Reboot News (2024)

KMST ver. 1.2.177 – New Epic Dungeon & Massive Reboot News (1)

Okay the title kinda sounds like clickbait but I didn’t know what else to put. Basically, this test server patch contains the new Epic Dungeon: Angler Company and various events as expected, but in the Maple Now stream, Director Changseop dropped a bombshell: Reboot will be turned into a regular server. So basically, I’ll cover the Maple Now, then the Reboot world changes notice that was posted to the homepage, and then the regular patch notes.

Dimensional Visitor

  • This is main event for the next two months. It is a story related to the new area of Talaheart that will be released next month.
  • The structure is pretty similar to the One Page in Memory event that just ended, with a daily attendance check 5 days a week and defeating 2k monsters 3 times per week.
  • The Apprentice Robot Playground map is an afk exp map, but it has a special feature called Dimensional Sunshine. You can pay 3k Maple Points or use ‘Dimensional Sunshine Creators’ given through the attendance check to get more experience while you’re in the map, up to 12 times per week. (One place where they are trying to add meaningful places to consume Maple Points)
  • The Dimensional Rift Exploration event is similar to the Halfling’s Treasure Hunt event from last year’s autumn event. You can choose between Black Flames, Symbol Selectors, and Sol Erda Energy.
  • The Solaha’s Energy Research event lets you get VIP Boosters by hunting monsters around oyur level.
  • The Gov’s Gift event is the temp stats skill.
  • In this event, all White Additional Cubes and Black Cubes provided will be Karma items. They looked at previous events and noticed that rather than using these items for their own characters, many players simply sold them as service to other players instead. Although this means they can no longer be used on tradable secondary weapons, they decided it was still a necessary change as the alternative would’ve been to give out less.

Champion Burning

  • To ensure that these two months have the same scale as the events in the last two months, the Champion Burning event has been added. It is a sort of experiment for a new system that they want to try out.
  • Basically, it’s an event that lets you grow your side characters and enjoy benefits from those side characters that you invested in.
  • The Champion Double Up event lets you choose 3 characters. After choosing them, they will be locked in for the full 9 weeks of the event and you cannot change. You should pick your main character and two side characters that you want to make stronger.
  • During the event, the Leader character that you choose will accumulate 1 Double Up Experience Point per 1 monster defeated, up to 100k per week for each of the other two Champion characters. Those Double Up Experience Points will give the side characters the equivalent experience of killing monsters within their level range. In addition, each character will get event coins to use in the shop for growth items.
  • The second part of this is the Champion Challenge, that will start on September 12. Not all players will be able to fully complete this event as it is a bit more difficult. There are various missions that you can complete on various characters (doesn’t have to be the three you chose for the Double Up, basically you should choose the three strongest side characters you have).
  • Every week, new missions will be unlocked. You will have to reach level 250, solo Suu , Guardian Angel Slime, Lucid, Dunkel, and Hard Jin Hilla. In addition, this time, Practice Mode clears will also count, so you won’t have to forego clearing real mode with your party or use up lots of items trying to clear.
  • Most players probably won’t be able to clear all of them, but it gives some goals and time to grow your side characters.

Epic Dungeon: Angler Company

  • In Story Mode, you will play as Senya Angler. In the regular Dungeon, you will play as your own character.
  • The base rewards for Angler Company give 1.5x the experience and Sol Erda that High Mountain gives. The Maple Points cost for the additional rewards has also be increased slightly (he mentioned that although the rewards have increased by about 30%, the Maple Point cost did not increase that much, so generous of them lol).
  • You can only play one of the two Epic Dungeons per week.

Collector’s Request

  • You can now buy two special items from the Collector NPC for 2m each.
  • Sayram’s Elixir gives similar effects to Wild Hunter’s Howling + Sharp Eyes and Bishop’s Advanced Bless. Alleria’s Elixir gives a Heaven’s Door effect. They do not stack with those buffs.
  • Most players will know what this is for just by looking at it but basically, there are certain party buffs that are always desired before going into a boss, and these Elixirs will replace them.
  • This is because a lot of the characters selling WH + Bishop buffs were macroers, so rather than have them benefit from selling them, they decided it would be better to both stop them and make it more convenient for players to get these buffs.
  • It also works as a small meso sink.
  • Rather than just adding these items by themselves, they added a really short quest line to give a small story explanation. Players that used to play MapleStory pre-Big Bang may remember the name Sayram from the Adventurer warriors’ skill storybook quests!

New Name Auction

  • This New Name Auction is different than previous events of the same name. Instead of players selling IGNs to each other, it’s Nexon selling IGNs directly. The initial bid will be 100 Maple Points.
  • They were planning a dormant character IGN wipe to be done soon, and looking at the records from previous wipes, they noticed that a lot of the IGNs were picked up by macroers rather than actual players.
  • To try and combat this, as well as increase the consumption of Maple Points in a meaningful way, they decided to update and use this event.
  • In the upcoming patch, they will change all dormant characters that meet the criteria to be standby-for-deletion. Then a week later, any IGNs that were attempted to be used when creating a character even 1 time during that time will be saved and placed into the New Name Auction instead of being released randomly.

Improvements

  • Monster Park
    • They have added a new UI for Monster Park, part of their work to update older content that didn’t have special UIs or good accessibility.
    • They have doubled the experience from Monster Park, but have lowered the number of free runs per day from 2 to 1.
    • They have doubled the cost of extra Monster Park runs from 300 Maple Points to 600 Maple Points each.
    • For players that don’t use Maple Points, they won’t lose any experience and save time from the extra run.
  • Damage Skins
    • The Damage Skin UI has been updated, letting you place them in the UI wherever you want.
  • Bosses
    • When certain rewards drop, a special effect will appear now.
  • DirectX11 will be applied to the official server soon.

Reboot World

  • Changseop started off by saying that he has been a developer that worked on Reboot right from the beginning and all of the changes its received over the years, and now he’s in charge of decisions for all of MapleStory, and so he apologized for everything that has happened and is happening related to Reboot World.
  • He said that he believes all of these problems were caused because they wrongfully thought that the same game content could be delivered in different forms. Reboot was released with a certain concept, but received various changes over the years to try and correct its issues, like changing the damage passive to final damage, or adjusting the prices of Boss Crystals. However, instead of being more realistic about the initial concept, it ultimately resulted in bad experiences.
  • Recently, MapleStory received 6th job, and faced a big change regarding potential resets. Various updates have also been made related to them. Their main two directions going forward are
    • 1: To quickly add new content for players to enjoy as they have become stronger with the addition of 6th job, such as new areas and bosses
    • 2: Add new ways to grow such as Epic Dungeons. They want to add new ways to supply various materials.
  • Looking at their plans for the future as well as various indicators from game data, he could no longer ignore the situation of Reboot players going forward, and decided to make fundamental changes.
  • Currently, Reboot World is in a state where both existing and new players cannot enjoy the content properly. Even as new content is added, they cannot use it. For example, even for the newly added boss Limbo, the top players in Reboot cannot clear Hard Mode.
  • He showed a chart with the average Combat Power for Hard Limbo clear/try parties in each world.
    • Regular Worlds First 5 Clear Parties’ Average CP: 730m
    • Regular Worlds Full Timer Clear Parties’ Average CP: 650m
    • Reboot Worlds Highest Combat Power Try Parties’ Average CP: 350m
  • This is a thing that has happened in the past where Reboot World players are were slower in clearing new content, but now, even the highest tier players cannot enjoy content that has been added, it’s just impossible. This situation will become even worse as they continue work on releasing new content faster.
  • Another characteristic of Reboot World is that there is no trading. This means that a character’s growth becomes limited based on their luck, which already has a big effect. This will also become even worse as they add more high-level content more quickly.
  • It’s not just endgame players that can’t enjoy content properly in Reboot, new players are also affected.
  • He showed a graph of new players (based on the Item Burning event) and the amount of time it took them to first solo bosses from Chaos Zakum to Normal Demian, comparing regular worlds (blue line) and Reboot worlds (yellow line). It took Reboot players 3.5x the amount of time to solo CZak (56 hours vs 195 hours) and 2.2x the amount of time to solo Normal Demian.
  • Various growth-related systems that they have added recently have rewards that are not possible to add in Reboot World like Epic Dungeon’s bonus rewards.
  • Looking at the data and their future patch plans, he said that they need to correct the mistakes that they made 10 years ago. Therefore, Reboot World will be changed to be the same as regular worlds over three updates.
    • 1st Patch: From August 13 to September 12, you must use all the major items and mesos that you have in Reboot World.
    • One month may seem relatively short, but they looked at the data and only 3.76% of Reboot players have more than 100 Red/Black Cubes, and only 2.57% of Reboot players have more than 10b mesos, so they are confident that players can spend it all before the second patch, where trading systems are added.
    • 2nd Patch: From the September 12 patch, all remaining mesos, Cubes, Spell Traces, Flames, Cores, equipment boxes, and other various items that can be purchased with mesos will be removed. Maple Auction, trading, and Meso Market will be added. Scrolls and Additional potential will also be added, but the stats will not be applied for 3 months, during which the Reboot final damage passive will be maintained. The Reboot passive’s increased boss equipment drop rate will be removed. All existing equipment items will become permanently untradable.
    • Reboot Luna Petite pets will require an additional Maple points fee to be converted into regular Luna Petite pets like in regular worlds. However, they will continue to sell Luna Petite Water of Life for 1 year. All unique Reboot World Cash item selling methods will also be removed.
    • 3rd Patch: From the December 19 patch, the final damage passive will be removed and Additional Potential/scroll stats will begin being applied.
    • Three months is a very short period so Reboot World’s economy will not be stabilized, so there will be no World Leaps for a long time.
  • Although this is a fundamental change to a service that has been provided for a long time, he believes this is the only way to provide a stable service and satisfy players in both Reboot World and regular worlds.

Conclusion

  • Regarding a balance patch, they have mentioned before that they’re working on it but they will implement it at an appropriate time.
  • He also talked about the viral AI music video someone made about him. He knows its a fun video that a lot of players enjoyed, even though it is also criticizing his previous actions. He will continue to listen to players’ opinions.

Hello. This is MapleStory.

We would like to announce a major change to Reboot World’s future dierction.

MapleStory is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, and we are continuously striving to provide new/high-quality content with the goal of bringing enjoyment to many players.

However, as new content has been added recently, we have confirmed that it is difficult to fully enjoy this content in Reboot World due to the differences in the characteristics between regular worlds and Reboot World.

MapleStory will continue to provide content updates that provide enjoyment to many players in the future, but in the current environment where there are differences between the two worlds, we have decided that it would be very difficult to provide a quality service to all players.

Therefore, we will be changing Reboot World to have the same environment as regular worlds.

Since this change is huge for current players in Reboot World, we would like to give advance notice about the considerations and intentions behind the change. The patches that will change Reboot World’s environment to be the same as regular worlds will be carried out gradually over three updates in August, September, and December. We will explain the direction and intentions of each patch.

Reboot World 1st Update (August 13)

  • The 1st update is an update for the preparation of using major items, including mesos, before converting Reboot Worlds into regular worlds.
    • In the upcoming 2nd update, all mesos and major consumable items currently held by Reboot World players will be removed.
    • This is the first measure taken to minimize the impact of remaining items or mesos on the market when regular world specifications based on an economic system that allows trading are applied. Players in Reboot World must use all of the goods they have on their current equipment or character growth before the 2nd update.
    • We will provide a detailed list of items that are scheduled to be removed in September ahead of time. For some items that may be deleted due to their characteristics that make them hard to use up or sell, we will change them so that you can acquire an appropriate amount of mesos.

Reboot World 2nd Update (September 12)

  • In the 2nd update, Reboot World will be changed to have almost the same specifications as regular worlds. The Reboot final damage passive will be removed in the 3rd update (December 19), and in the meantime, there will be a grace period that allows players to proceed with equipment growth through additional potential and scrolling.
    • Mesos and major consumable items will be removed. Additionally, items that may affect the market economy will be removed or their specifications will be changed.
    • All equipment items you currently own will be changed to be permanently untradable. Equipment items that have become permanently untradable cannot be used for Toad’s Hammer or Equipment Traces, which are factors that can affect tradable items.
    • Additional Potential and scrolling will be added in the same way as regular worlds. However, the Reboot final damage passive will remain for 3 months, and the stat boosts through Additional Potential and scrolling will not be applied for 3 months. This is to prevent the combat experience from being significantly nerfed if the Reboot passive was to be removed immediately, and to provide a sufficient period of time to proceed with enhancements through Additional Potential and scrolling. Therefore, the stat boosts from Additional Potential and scrolling will be applied starting from the 3rd patch (December 19) when the Reboot passive is removed.
    • Reboot exclusive specifications will be changed to be the same as regular worlds. This applies to all Reboot World specifications except for the final damage passive mentioned above. The trading feature, Maple Auction, Meso Market, etc. that were previously impossible to use systematically will be added in the same way. The Cash Shop sales list, boss reward acquisition criteria, and drop methods will also be changed to be the same as regular worlds.

Reboot World 3rd Update (December 19)

  • In the 3rd update, the Reboot final damage passive will be removed, and all specifications will be changed to be exactly the same as regular worlds.
    • Stat boosts from Additional Potential and scrolling will be applied, and the Reboot passive skill will be removed.

We fully understand that these changes may be confusing to many Reboot World players. However, we would like to emphasize that this decision was made to provide continuous operation and a better gaming environment. Also, if you find anything that we have not confirmed regarding the Reboot WOrld changes, please let us know through the Customer Center and we will do our best to update them.

Since Reboot World has been playing in an environment that is very different from regular worlds for a very long time, there will not be any form of changing worlds, including World Leap, for a while.

Please check the release notes below for detailed information on the Reboot World changes. The contents of the release notes may change when the actual patch is applied.

Overview

Similar to the Epic Dungeon: High Mountain, Angler Company is split into 8 stages. There are 3 stages of hunting/minigames, then a miniboss, then 3 more hunting/minigame stages, then the final boss. In all stages, you can hunt monsters or complete various mechanics to fill up the Energy Gauge to use special skills.

Stage 1 and Stage 5 feature an autorun platforming minigame, where you must defeat monsters to fill up the Energy Gauge then NPC Chat the computer to start controlling a mini robot. The robot will automatically move forwards over whichever platform it is currently on. The green platforms are always there, but the red and blue platforms are alternating, and you can use the Tab key to switch which colour platforms are active. You must do this with correct timing to lead the robot to the end of the stage.

Stage 2 and Stage 6 feature a ladder minigame, where you must defeat monsters to fill up the Energy Gauge then use the special skill to either connect the power source from the specified node at the top of the screen to the node at the bottom of the screen or lead the boss to the correct node at the bottom of the screen by placing wires in the correct spots.

Stage 3 and Stage 7 feature a special Angler Suit, that you can board after collecting 1000 Energy. After boarding it, you do a small jump quest while defeating monsters with the Railgun, and use the Tab key to alternate platforms like in Stage 1/5.

Stage 4 is the miniboss, the Angler Centurion. Periodically, it will charge a huge laser beam and you must use the Shield of the opposite colour to avoid it and absorb its attack as Energy. Then it will reveal its weak spot and you can use NPC Chat to aim and fire special attacks.

Stage 8 is the final boss, Triton. Triton’s heart will move around the map and you must hit it to weaken him, after which you can deal full damage for a small period of time. Periodically, it will activate a powerful attack that requires you to charge 1000 Energy to create a shield to avoid it.
